JB kicked off the meeting congratulating CAPT Myles Esmele for his election as the FAPAC Headquarters President.  Our website is current.  Please visit our website at http://fapac-sw.org.

 

FAPAC Southwest Election of Officers

• CAPT Myles Esmele suggested November 15 as the date to vote and elect the officers for FAPAC Southwest.  Installation of officers will be held in December.
• JB suggested the FAPAC Southwest from SPAWAR consisting of Pete Almazan, Jim Arcega, and Arlene Petrungaro will be asked to be the Election Committee.  JB will e-mail them to solicit their support.  This process has to start soon to be able to meet the November 15 election date.
• JB will also e-mail the FAPAC Southwest Executive Board for member requirements.  This will determine if a member can run for office, nominate a candidate and vote on the upcoming election.  A majority decision will be required to pursue this recommendation. 

FAPAC Southwest Mini-Leadership Seminar

• The Mini-Leadership Seminar is scheduled on September 25 (6 weeks away).  Seminar venue has been finalized and will be held at TSC Auditorium (same as last year).
• We need to identify guest speakers and their topic.  The theme of the seminar is “Diverse Leadership for a Diverse Workforce”.
• Deadline for submitting suggestions for guest speakers is not later than August 15, 2010.
• Initial suggestions include:
• CAPT Myles Esmele
• Dr. Chatterjee
• Sharon Nicholas will talk to a couple of her contacts.

FRC Diversity Day on the 23rd of September

• FAPAC Southwest will support FRC Diversity Day with the following presentation:
• Aikido Demonstration by CAPT Esmele
• FAPAC Southwest Booth – To be manned by Rolando Muñoz and Delia Newcomer.  Will sell food and show FAPAC Southwest information/flyers.

Other Business:

• FAPAC Headquarters’ installation of officers will be held on the 28th September in the Press Club, Washington, DC.  Please check the http://www.fapac.org website for details about the event.
• Sharon Nicholas is inviting FAPAC Southwest members to celebrate CAPT Myles Esmele’s installation as FAPAC President.  It will be held at her house in Orange County.  Tentative date is either the 9th or 16th of October.  Sharon will send out e-mail requesting for the best date to do this event.  Hope you can all join us.

FAPAC Southwest June 2010 General Membership Meeting.

The next FAPAC Southwest meeting will be held on the 15th of June (Tuesday) from 5:00PM to 8:00PM. One of our members, Ms. Lauren Talia, is gracious enough to host the meeting in her condominium lounge complex in Downtown San Diego. There will be a $5.00 fee for each attendees to cover the food and drinks. Address, directions, and dial-in information (for out-of-town members) will be promulgated via email. Please mark this meeting on your calendar since we have so much things to talk about.

1. Recap of past months.
2. FAPAC By-laws modifications and changes. How will this affect you?
3. FAPAC Headquarters Nomination and voting.
4. FAPAC Southwest events.
5. FAPAC Southwest new officer slate.

There will be a Filipino-American Symphony Organization (FASO) event on Jun 17 from 6:30PM to 8:30PM at Liberty Station that will benefit Operation Samahan.

Apirl 2010 General Membership Meeting

Meeting Minutes:

1. Town Hall Meeting – The Department of Veterans Affairs’ Advisory Committee on Minority Veterans will conduct a town hall meeting on April 13, 2010, 6:30pm – 8:30pm at Scottish Rite Center of San Diego.  The main focus of the meeting is hearing how the Veterans Affairs has addressed the needs of minority Veterans and their families.

 

2. Free Wheelchair Mission – The Vietnamese-American Group will sponsor a fundraising event on behalf of Free Wheelchair Mission.  The event will be on April 16, 2010 at Mon Cheri  Restaurant , 3510 West Linclon Ave, Anaheim, CA 92801.  Tickets are $25/person.  FAPAC SW will attend this event headed by Sharon, JB, CAPT, Francis, Delia, Irene and her husband.  JB will provide a seven passenger van for members coming from San Diego.

 

3. FAPAC National Leadership Conference – CAPT, JB, Sharon, Reñe, CDR Balolong, Lydia, Janice and Maria are scheduled to attend the conference in May.  This year is the 25th Anniversary of FAPAC and various chapters will be recognized for their contribution to FAPAC National’s success. FAPAC SW will be recognized for their receipt of  the Outstanding Chapter Award last year.

 

4. Asian Heritage Award 2010 – CAPT Esmele is encouraging members to attend this years’ award ceremony on July 10, 2010 on board the Midway.  He suggested FAPAC SW will subsidize 75% of the $125/person ticket if they decide to attend.

 

5. Other Discussion – CAPT Esmele requested Paul to make 20 more copies of FAPAC SW DVD and to add the information on Free Wheelchair Mission as one of the accomplishments .

 

6. Next Meeting – There’s no meeting in May due to FAPAC Leadership Conference.  The next meeting will be scheduled in June.
